New Energy Saving TRU TEMP® Black Oxide Process Finishes
Parts 100°F Cooler Than Hot Process

Eden Prairie, Minnesota: Energy conscious manufacturers now can produce quality black oxide finishes on non-stainless steel, cast iron, and powdered metal parts at a 100°F lower operating temperature than ordinary hot oxide.

New TRU TEMP® 190°F black oxide is the ideal, energy conserving substitute for dangerous hot oxides that usually operate at a high 290°F. TRU TEMP is a unique, patent-applied-for process that produces a true black magnetite finish of .000020" thickness, with an attractive satin black appearance, equal to that of regular hot oxide.

"TRU TEMP is today's part finishing solution to reduce sky-rocketing energy costs," reports Mark Ruhland, Birchwood Casey vice president and manufacturer of the exclusive TRU TEMP process. "It's the finishing process for the times where energy conservation, worker safety and just-in-time part finishing are corporate mandates."

TRU TEMP'S two step chemistry requires just 10 to 15 minutes process time so more parts can be finished using less energy than conventional finishing processes. (The conventional hot oxide process requires up to 50 minutes process time.)

Another energy saving feature with TRU TEMP is that no waste treatment equipment is needed. The TRU TEMP process contains no EPA regulated chemicals, and in most sewer districts the rinsewaters are considered to be sewerable as non-hazardous effluent. Because of this feature, the initial capital investment is only about half that of other finishing systems.

TRU TEMP's energy-saving features also make it safer for operators. Because the TRU TEMP blackening solution operates at a moderate temperature well below the boiling point, severe splattering and boilover hazards of ordinary hot oxides are not present. Operators like the process better because it is safer. Employers like it because it has less potential for injury.

TRU TEMP also is attractive to manufacturers who want to eliminate the delays and scheduling problems of using outside finishers. The process is easy to operate for just-in-time part finishing requirements.
