New 40 Gallon Tru Temp® In-House Black Oxide Line Eden Prairie, Minnesota: High quality black finishes on iron and steel components can be produced quickly and safely with the new TRU TEMP® 190°F in-house black oxide system. And, when incorporated into the BC40 Tank Line, the entire system can be purchased for under $10,000, including chemical products. The TRU TEMP® 190°F Black Oxide process is an ideal substitute for dangerous hot oxides that normally operate at 290°F. Utilizing a two-step chemistry (patent applied for), the TRU TEMP process takes only 10 to 15 minutes, and produces a true black magnetite finish of .000020" thickness, with an attractive satin black appearance, equal to that of regular black oxide. Because the TRU TEMP process contains no EPA regulated chemicals, there is usually no need for waste treatment equipment. In most sewer districts, the rinsewaters are considered to be sewerable as non-hazardous effluent. For this reason, the initial capital investment is only half that of other blackening processes. The mild TRU TEMP blackening solution operates at a moderate temperature that is well below the boiling point, so the severe splattering and boilover hazards of ordinary black oxides are just not present. Operators love working with a safer blackening system, and employers also derive benefits through the lowering of the potential for injury. The BC40 Tank Line is supplied as a completely pre-engineered process line for fast setup and use. The system utilizes seven individual tanks, each measuring 16 x 24 x 24 inches deep, and occupies a footprint of just 3 feet x 15 feet. Tanks are ruggedly constructed of either 10 gauge welded steel (epoxy painted) or 1/2" welded polypropylene, and are supplied with all the necessary heaters and plumbing connections. A detailed owner's manual guides the user through assembly, charging with chemicals, startup, testing and troubleshooting - all with technical support from BIRCHWOOD CASEY. The BC40 TRU TEMP system is ideal for dimensionally critical components such as tooling power drive components, gages, machine parts, and meets military specification MIL-C-13924C, Class 1. "The BC40 TRU TEMP system provides important quality, safety and cost-saving advantages over conventional hot blackening methods," according to Mark Ruhland, Birchwood Casey Vice President. "The elimination of salt bloom while presenting a high quality satin black finish with high corrosion resistance makes it the best all-around finish for the money in today's market. And, blackening parts in-house gives the owner the ability to control the quality, scheduling and cost of finishing operations, facilitating ISO programs and inventory control."
