Process Steps And Options To Choose From

Designed to be user and environmentally friendly, Birchwood Casey blackening and antiquing processes are easy and safe to use in either manual or fully automatic lines. They offer you the maximum control over finish and operating cost.

Coupled with the Ion Exchange System, the line requires no water, drain or vent hookup and can be located anywhere in the plant in a manufacturing cell or any convenient location. Birchwood Casey is the smart alternative to other oxidizing processes.

Surface Preparation

A surface free of oil, oxides and plating residues is needed. Brass plated parts need only a water rinse and weak acid rinse to remove cyanide residues. Solid parts can be degreased and prepared by conventional methods.

Clean Water Rinse

Removes cleaning residues.

Blackening/Oxidizing

Blackening/Browning concentrates are diluted with water. Parts are immersed 1-3 minutes or until desired color has developed. Or, concentrates can be applied as brush-on solutions for touch-up work or on large pieces.

Clean Water Rinse

Stops the chemical reaction.

Highlight and/or Seal

Parts may be wet burnished or dried and highlighted, then sealed. Or, if a solid color is desired, simply seal the finish with appropriate clear topcoat.
